Renewable Energy & Carbon Management

OSB Sustainable Future Section Energy Brown Bag Series:

Renewable Energy & Carbon Management

Series:  The OSB Sustainable Future Section presented a two part energy series featuring renewable energy and carbon management – two topics of great interest to the clients we serve.

Renewable Energy (September 20):  Oregon has established a timeline for utilities to provide a portion of their retail sales of electricity from “renewable sources”.  What is Oregon’s renewable portfolio standard?  How will utilities meet this mandate?  What are the latest developments in wind and solar technologies and what are the challenges of incorporating these sources into the power grid?

Click for the biographies of the speakers and for the Dept. of Energy presentation on RECs and RPS.

Carbon Management (September 27):  At the center of climate change debates is the question of how to curtail emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.  What are the differences between carbon tax and cap and trade programs?  Are we likely to see either type of carbon regulation in the next few years?  What is a carbon offset versus a carbon credit or a voluntary versus a compliance carbon market?
