Recycling in the Law Office: Mechanics and Ethics

This two-part CLE provides expert advice on the mechanics and ethics of recycling in the law office. The mechanics portion will focus on the current opportunities and challenges for recycling in the law office and provide real-life examples and practical solutions for large and medium-sized firms, tenants in large downtown buildings, and office share locations. The ethics portion includes updates on these issues as they relate especially to client files and documents including paper and electronic storage.

Drawing from the expertise of Sustainable Future Section Partners in Sustainability, panelists include:

Dallas DeLuca. Litigator and shareholder, Markowitz Herbold PC firm which was a previous Sustainable Future Section Sustainable Law Office award winner. Dallas represents businesses, government entities, and individuals in commercial litigation in state and federal courts, arbitration, and before the Public Utility Commission of Oregon. He is a founding member of his firm’s Saving the Green Committee of the Sustainable Future Section from its creation in 2010 through 2013.

Virginia Zingg. Director of Administration, Kell Alterman. Virginia oversees office operations, technology, marketing, finance, and human resource functions at the firm. She is currently on the Education Committee of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA).

Cheyenne Chapman. Legal Policy Analyst, Department of Environmental Quality. Cheyenne serves as the coordinator for the statewide Prospective Purchaser Agreement Program, completing nearly 100 PPAs over the past seven years. Cheyenne studied Environmental Design, Land Use Planning, and Law, and completed an advanced law degree in Environment and Natural Resources. She is pleased to bring a legal policy perspective to DEQ’s cleanup and redevelopment efforts.

David J. Elkanich. Partner, Holland & Knight LLP. David focuses his practice on litigation with an emphasis on legal ethics and risk management. He advises both lawyers and law firms in a wide range of professional responsibility matters and has extensive experience in defending lawyers in attorney discipline matters and in related litigation. He frequently counsels lawyers and other professionals on how to navigate an “electronic” practice, including the rules of engaging in online activity, mining metadata, data privacy and security, and in utilizing social media.
