Oregon Land Trusts

A CLE Program Co-Sponsored by the Oregon State Bar Sustainable Future Section and the Green Business Initiative at the University of Oregon School of Law.

Land trusts play a valuable role in protecting Oregon’s sensitive ecosystems, wildlife habitat, productive forests and farmland, and cultural and historical resources. This program provides an overview of the organization and operation of land trusts and the techniques they utilize to conserve land. Three diverse land trusts—Wallowa Land Trust, Blue Mountains Conservancy, and Columbia Land Trust—will explain their respective conservation objectives and will share examples of how they have strategically pursued conservation opportunities. The program also will describe conservation options for small orphan urban parcels and the scope, uses, and tax benefits of conservation easements that are extensively used by land trusts.
